Welcome back to Make Your Own Mouse Mansion — the complete video series! Your mansion has walls with beautiful wallpaper and lovely popsicle stick floors from Part 2. But an empty room is not much of a home. This is Part 3 of 6, and it is time to build furniture and bring your rooms to life.
What This Episode Covers
In this episode, Karina shows you how to build your first miniature furniture pieces from simple materials — popsicle sticks, matchboxes, cardboard, and scraps of fabric. You will learn how to make a few essential pieces and, just as importantly, how to arrange them in a room so it feels natural and lived-in. By the end of this episode, you'll have at least one fully furnished room in your mansion.
Step by Step
Step 1: Start with a Bench
A simple bench is one of the easiest pieces of furniture to make and a great place to start. Using a few popsicle sticks, you can build a sturdy little bench in just minutes. Karina demonstrates the basic construction: two short legs, a seat, and an optional back rest. For the full detailed tutorial, see: Miniature Bench from Popsicle Sticks.
Step 2: Build a Bed
Every mouse needs a place to sleep! Karina shows you how to build a charming bunk bed from popsicle sticks — perfect for a children's room or a shared bedroom. The basic frame is surprisingly simple, and you can add tiny fabric blankets and a small pillow made from cotton wool. For the complete technique, visit: Tiny Bunk Bed from Popsicle Sticks.
Step 3: Make a Bookcase or Shelf
Bookshelves add instant character to any room. Stack a few small pieces of cardboard or popsicle sticks to create shelves, then fill them with tiny books and ornaments later. Karina shows both a freestanding bookcase and a wall-mounted shelf. For more detail, see: Tiny Bookcase for Your Mouse Mansion and Tiny Bookshelves from Popsicle Sticks.
Step 4: Create a Desk or Table
A desk made from a matchbox is one of Karina's signature pieces. The matchbox drawer slides in and out, giving the desk actual storage. Add four short popsicle stick legs and you have a functional, adorable piece of furniture. For the detailed guide: Tiny Desks from Matchboxes.
Step 5: Add a Wardrobe
If you are furnishing a bedroom, a wardrobe is a wonderful addition. Karina builds hers from thin cardboard with tiny doors that actually open. You can fill it with mouse-sized clothes on miniature hangers. See the full tutorial: Making a Miniature Wardrobe.
Step 6: Arrange Your Room
Now comes the fun part — placing your furniture. Karina's golden rule is to think about how a real room works. Push the bed against a wall, place the desk near the window, put the bookcase where it can be reached. Leave space for the mice to walk around. Try different arrangements until the room feels right. A room that looks lived-in is always more interesting than one where everything is perfectly lined up.
What's Next?
Your room has furniture, but it still needs personality! In Part 4, Karina shows you how to add all the small details that make a mouse mansion truly special — decorations, clay food, tiny paintings, and more.
