Build a Tiny Bunk Bed from Popsicle Sticks

Create an adorable miniature bunk bed from popsicle sticks — complete with a tiny ladder and bedding. A wonderful weekend project for crafters of all ages.

A bunk bed instantly makes any miniature bedroom feel like a real home — especially if there are little ones (or little mice) sharing a room. This project is a step up from a simple bed, but do not let that scare you. If you take it one piece at a time, you will end up with something truly special.

Step by Step

Step 1: Build Two Bed Frames

Start by building two identical bed frames from popsicle sticks. Each frame is simply a rectangle — cut your sticks to the same length and glue them together. Use your ruler to make sure both frames are the same size, since they need to stack neatly on top of each other.

Step 2: Create the Ladder

Cut two long, thin strips from popsicle sticks for the sides of the ladder, and several tiny pieces for the rungs. Glue the rungs evenly between the two side pieces. The ladder is small, so take your time and let the glue dry between each rung if needed.

Step 3: Assemble the Posts

Cut four posts that are tall enough to hold both beds with a gap in between. Glue the bottom bed frame to the posts first, then add the top frame. Make sure everything is level — you can rest the structure on a flat surface while the glue dries to keep it straight.

Step 4: Glue the Structure Together

Once all the pieces are dry, attach the ladder to one side of the bunk bed. Add a tiny drop of glue at the top and bottom of the ladder to secure it. Give the whole structure a gentle wiggle to check for any weak spots, and reinforce with a bit more glue wherever needed.

Step 5: Add Tiny Bedding

Cut small pieces of fabric to make mattresses, pillows, and blankets. A thin piece of cotton or felt works perfectly as a mattress, and a tiny scrap of patterned fabric makes an adorable blanket. Tuck everything in neatly — or leave it a little messy for a more lived-in look.
