A wardrobe with doors that actually open — there is something about that level of detail that makes miniature making so rewarding. This project takes a little more time than some of the simpler builds, but every step is manageable, and the finished piece is absolutely worth the effort. You are going to want to make tiny clothes to hang inside it.
Step by Step
Step 1: Shape the Box into a Wardrobe
Find a small cardboard box that is roughly the right proportions for a wardrobe — taller than it is wide. If you cannot find the perfect size, you can always cut and reshape a larger box. Trim it neatly and make sure the edges are clean and straight.
Step 2: Create Doors That Open
This is the fun part. Cut the front panel of the box in half vertically to create two doors. You can hinge them with small strips of paper or thin fabric glued along the inside edge, so they swing open and closed. Take your time with this step — getting the doors to move smoothly makes the whole piece feel special.
Step 3: Add a Tiny Rail from Wire
Cut a piece of thin wire to fit across the inside of the wardrobe, near the top. Poke small holes on each side and push the wire through, then secure it with a drop of glue. This is the clothes rail where your tiny hangers will go. Make sure it is sturdy enough to hold a few hangers without sagging.
Step 4: Make Tiny Hangers
Bend small pieces of wire into hanger shapes. This takes a little patience, but once you get the technique down, you can make them quickly. A pair of small pliers helps a lot here. Each hanger should be small enough to fit inside the wardrobe and hook over the rail.
Step 5: Decorate and Finish
Paint the outside of the wardrobe or cover it with paper to give it a polished look. Glue a small bead to one or both doors as a knob. You can add details like tiny panels on the doors using thin strips of paper, or paint decorative lines for a more ornate style. Once everything is dry, hang your tiny hangers inside and stand back to admire your work.
