Tiny Lamps from Recycled Materials

Turn bottle caps, beads, and wire into charming tiny lamps for your miniature rooms. A fun recycling project that proves treasures hide in your junk drawer.

You do not need fancy supplies to make wonderful miniature lamps. A bottle cap, a bead, a bit of wire — that is really all it takes. This project is a great reminder that the best miniature materials are often things you already have lying around the house.

Step by Step

Step 1 — Use the Cap as a Base

Start with a clean bottle cap — this becomes the sturdy base of your lamp. You can flip it upside down for a flat base or leave it right-side up for a bowl shape. Paint it in a colour that matches your room, or leave it metallic for an industrial look.

Step 2 — Wire for the Stand

Cut a piece of thin wire and glue it upright into the centre of the bottle cap. This is the stem of your lamp. Make sure it stands straight and tall. You can wrap it with a thin strip of paper or paint it to give it a more finished appearance.

Step 3 — Bead for the Bulb

Thread a small round bead onto the top of the wire — this is your light bulb. A translucent or white bead works beautifully for this. Secure it with a tiny drop of glue so it stays in place at the top of the stem.

Step 4 — Create a Shade from Paper

Cut a small piece of paper and shape it into a lampshade. A little cone or bell shape works perfectly. Glue it around the bead so that the "bulb" peeks out underneath. Paint or decorate the shade however you like — stripes, polka dots, or a solid colour all look wonderful.
