Tiny Jugs and Pitchers from Paper

Roll, shape, and paint paper into beautiful miniature jugs and pitchers that look just like real pottery. A satisfying project with stunning results.

It is hard to believe, but you can make tiny jugs and pitchers from plain paper that look remarkably like real pottery. With just a bit of rolling, shaping, and painting, you will have beautiful little vessels for your miniature kitchen or dining table. This is one of those projects where the results are really rewarding.

Step by Step

Step 1 — Roll Paper into a Vessel Shape

Start by rolling a small strip of paper tightly around a toothpick to form the body of your jug or pitcher. Slide it off carefully and adjust the shape — wider at the bottom, narrower at the top. Secure the edge with a thin line of glue.

Step 2 — Form the Handle

Cut a very thin strip of paper and curve it into a small handle shape. Glue one end near the top of your jug and the other near the middle. Hold it gently until the glue sets. The handle makes all the difference in making it look like a real pitcher.

Step 3 — Create the Spout

While the paper is still slightly pliable, gently pinch one side of the top opening to form a small spout. For a jug without a spout, you can skip this step and simply leave the opening round. A tiny rim of glue helps the spout keep its shape.

Step 4 — Paint and Decorate

Now the fun part — painting. Use earthy tones like terracotta, cream, or blue to give your pitcher a ceramic look. You can add tiny patterns like stripes or dots for a hand-painted pottery effect. A coat of glue over the top can give it a slight gloss, like a glazed finish.
