Bare walls in a miniature room are like a blank canvas waiting to be filled. Making tiny paintings and picture frames is one of the most enjoyable ways to add personality to your miniature house. You get to be both the artist and the frame maker — and the results always look charming.
Step by Step
Step 1 — Create Tiny Artwork
Draw, paint, or colour a tiny picture on a small piece of paper or card. It can be anything — a landscape, a portrait, a bunch of flowers, or an abstract design. Keep it simple, because at this small scale even a few brushstrokes look impressive. Do not worry about being a perfect artist.
Step 2 — Cut the Frame Strips
Cut four thin strips of cardboard to frame your artwork. Measure them against the painting to get the right lengths. Cut the ends at 45-degree angles for proper mitre corners, or simply overlap them for a rustic look.
Step 3 — Assemble the Frame
Glue the four strips around the edges of your artwork, forming a neat rectangle. Press each corner together carefully and let the glue dry. If the corners are not perfect, do not worry — a tiny touch of extra glue or paint will hide any gaps.
Step 4 — Paint the Frame
Paint the frame in gold for a classic gallery look, or try brown for a wooden frame, or white for something fresh and modern. Let the paint dry completely before handling.
Step 5 — Attach the Art
Once everything is dry, your framed painting is ready to hang on the wall of your miniature room. Use a tiny drop of glue to attach it to the wall. Try grouping several frames together for a gallery wall effect.
