How to Build a Miniature Bathroom

Build a complete miniature bathroom with tiled walls, a bathtub, sink and toilet. A satisfying room project that looks wonderful in any dollhouse.

Every dollhouse needs a bathroom — and building one is a wonderfully satisfying project. There is something special about creating a tiny tiled room with a bathtub, a little sink and all the small details that make it feel real. In this tutorial we build a complete miniature bathroom from scratch.

Step by Step

Step 1 — Prepare the Room

Start with a clean, sturdy cardboard box room. Bathrooms are usually smaller than other rooms, so a compact box works perfectly. Paint the inside walls white or cover them with white paper. This gives you a bright, clean base that looks just like a real bathroom. Make sure the surface is smooth — any bumps will show through the tiles later.

Step 2 — Create Tiled Walls

Cut small squares of paper to use as tiles. You can use white paper for a classic look, or add colour — light blue, soft green or even a pattern. Glue the tiles one by one onto the lower half of the walls, leaving a tiny gap between each one to suggest grout lines. This takes patience, but the result is incredibly convincing. You can leave the upper half of the walls plain or painted.

Step 3 — Install the Bathtub

Place the bathtub against one wall. If you are using a kit, follow the assembly instructions. If you are making your own, shape it from cardboard or a small container and paint it white. The bathtub is usually the largest item in the bathroom, so position it first and arrange everything else around it. Add small wire taps for a realistic touch.

Step 4 — Add the Sink and Toilet

Position the sink against a wall — ideally with a small mirror above it. The toilet goes in a corner or against the wall opposite the bathtub. Make sure each piece is securely glued once you are happy with the layout. Leave enough open floor space so the room does not feel cramped. A bathroom should feel clean and uncluttered.

Step 5 — Finishing Touches

Add the details that bring the bathroom to life. A tiny towel draped over the bathtub edge, a small mat on the floor, a toothbrush in a bead cup next to the sink. You can make a toilet roll from a tiny strip of paper wound around a short piece of cocktail stick. These finishing touches are what transform a box with furniture into a room that tells a story.
