A sink is one of those essential bathroom pieces that every miniature room needs. You can make a surprisingly realistic one from a bottle cap or a small piece of shaped cardboard. Add a pedestal, some wire taps and a tiny mirror above it, and you have a bathroom feature that looks like it belongs in a real home.
Step by Step
Step 1 — Shape the Basin
If you are using a bottle cap, you already have a perfect basin shape — simply turn it upside down and it forms a shallow bowl. If you are working with cardboard, cut an oval shape and gently press the centre to create a slight curve, or build up the rim with a thin strip of cardboard glued around the edge. The basin should be small enough to look proportional to your room.
Step 2 — Create the Pedestal
Roll a piece of cardboard into a narrow tube — this becomes the pedestal that supports the sink. It should be tall enough to bring the basin to a realistic height in your bathroom. Glue the tube securely and let it dry. Then glue the basin on top of the pedestal. If you prefer a wall-mounted look, you can skip the pedestal and glue a small bracket beneath the basin instead.
Step 3 — Add Wire Taps
Cut two short pieces of thin wire and bend them into small tap shapes. A gentle curve at the top looks like a traditional tap handle. Glue them to the back edge of the basin, one on each side. For a spout, bend a slightly longer piece of wire into a graceful downward curve and glue it between the two taps. These tiny details make an enormous difference.
Step 4 — Paint
Give the entire sink — basin, pedestal and taps — a coat of white paint. Let it dry and add a second coat for a smooth, porcelain-like finish. You can paint the tap handles a metallic silver or gold if you have those colours available. Once the paint is completely dry, the sink is ready for installation.
Step 5 — Mount to the Wall
Glue the finished sink against the bathroom wall. Make sure it is level and firmly attached. Now add a mirror above it — cut a small oval or rectangle from foil or shiny paper and frame it with a thin strip of cardboard. Glue the mirror to the wall just above the sink. Step back and admire the view — it really pulls the bathroom together.
