It is the tiniest details that make a miniature room feel real — and nothing says "someone lives here" quite like a little waste bin with a trash bag peeking over the edge. This is one of the quickest projects you can make, and the result adds so much character to a kitchen, bathroom, or any room that needs a touch of everyday life.
Step by Step
Step 1: Roll the Cardboard into a Cylinder
Cut a small rectangle of cardboard or thick paper and roll it into a cylinder shape. The size depends on the scale of your miniature room, but something roughly the width of your thumb usually works well. Use a bit of glue or tape along the seam to hold it in place.
Step 2: Create the Base
Cut a small circle of cardboard to fit the bottom of your cylinder and glue it in place. Press it firmly and let it dry. This gives your waste bin a solid bottom so it can stand upright on its own. If the edges are a bit uneven, that is perfectly fine — you can trim them once the glue is set.
Step 3: Make the Tiny Trash Bag
Take a tiny piece of plastic bag or tissue paper and crumple it very gently into a small pouch shape. The idea is to create something that looks like a trash bag lining the inside of the bin. Tissue paper in white or light gray works beautifully for this, and it is easy to shape.
Step 4: Place the Bag Inside
Tuck the tiny trash bag into the waste bin, letting the edges fold over the rim just like a real trash bag would. You can secure it with a tiny dot of glue if needed, but often it stays in place on its own. Fluff the edges a bit so they look natural and slightly uneven — that is what makes it look realistic.
