Tiny boxes are one of the most versatile things you can make for a miniature scene. They work in a shop, a kitchen, a bedroom, an attic — really anywhere you can imagine. In this tutorial you will punch out, fold and glue beautiful little boxes from die-cut sheets. The printed designs give each box its own character, and the whole process is wonderfully relaxing.
Step by Step
Step 1: Punch Out the Box Pieces
Carefully punch or cut out all the box shapes from your die-cut sheet. Each box is printed as a flat template with fold lines and tabs clearly marked. Cut as close to the outlines as you can for the cleanest result. You will likely have several different box designs on one sheet, each with its own colour and pattern.
Step 2: Score the Fold Lines
Before you fold, run a toothpick or the back of your scissors gently along each fold line. This scoring step is small but it makes a big difference — it helps the paper bend exactly where it should and gives you much crisper, neater folds. Take your time with this step, especially on the smallest boxes where precision really matters.
Step 3: Fold Carefully
Now fold each box along the scored lines. Start with the bottom, then bring up the sides one by one. You will see the flat shape transform into a three-dimensional box right in your hands. Go slowly and make sure each fold is straight and even. If a fold is not quite right, gently unfold and try again — the scored line will guide you.
Step 4: Glue the Tabs
Apply a thin line of glue to each tab using a toothpick. Press the tab against the inside of the box wall and hold it in place for a few seconds. Work through one tab at a time so nothing shifts. Be careful not to use too much glue — a thin, even layer holds just as well and keeps the outside of the box clean and neat.
Step 5: Stack and Display
Once all your boxes are assembled and dry, the fun really begins. Stack them on a shelf, pile them in a corner, line them up on a counter, or scatter them around a room. A stack of tiny boxes instantly makes a space feel full and interesting. Try mixing different sizes and designs together for the most natural look.
