Tiny boxes are one of those miniature essentials that you will use again and again. They are perfect for filling shelves in a shop, stacking in a pantry, or storing tiny treasures in a bedroom. And they are so simple to make — just paper, a ruler, and a bit of patience.
Step by Step
Step 1 — Cut and Fold the Box Shape
Start by cutting a small square or rectangle of paper. Use your ruler to measure and mark where the folds should go — you need a base in the centre with flaps on all four sides. Score the fold lines gently with a blunt edge before folding for the crispest results.
Step 2 — Crease the Edges Neatly
Fold all four sides up along your scored lines. Take your time here — neat creases make all the difference between a box that looks handmade and one that looks professional. Use your fingernail or the edge of a ruler to press each crease firmly.
Step 3 — Glue the Tabs
Apply a tiny amount of glue to the corner tabs and press the sides of the box together. Hold each corner in place for a moment while the glue sets. Work your way around all four corners until the box holds its shape on its own.
Step 4 — Create the Lid
Make a second box just slightly larger than the first — this becomes the lid. Follow the same steps but add about one millimetre to each measurement so it fits snugly over the base. A well-fitting lid is very satisfying.
