How to Make Miniature Paper Plants

Bring your miniature rooms to life with tiny paper plants. This easy tutorial with free template shows you how to make beautiful little houseplants from paper and wire.

Nothing brings a miniature room to life quite like a little plant on the windowsill or a tiny fern on a shelf. These miniature paper plants are so easy to make, and they add an incredible amount of charm to any scene. You will be amazed at how realistic they can look with just a few simple materials.

Step by Step

Step 1 — Cut the Leaf Shapes

Cut tiny leaf shapes from your green paper. Try different shapes — long and thin for a spider plant, round for a monstera, or tiny ovals for a fern. Using different shades of green makes your plant look much more natural and interesting.

Step 2 — Attach Leaves to Wire Stems

Glue each leaf to a short piece of thin wire. These are your stems. You can group several leaves together on one stem or keep them separate for a bushier look. Bend the wire gently so the leaves fan out naturally, not too stiff or too floppy.

Step 3 — Create the Pot

Roll a small piece of clay into a tiny pot shape, or use a bead with a wide opening. Paint it terracotta, white, or any colour you like. Make sure the opening is wide enough to hold your stems. Let the pot dry completely before adding the plant.

Step 4 — Arrange the Stems in the Pot

Gather your wire stems together and insert them into the pot. Add a drop of glue to hold everything in place. Arrange the leaves so they fan out nicely in all directions. Step back and adjust until it looks just right — a little bit of asymmetry makes it look more natural.
