Miniature Chairs and a Beach Lounger from Sticks

Build miniature chairs and a fun beach lounger from popsicle sticks. Easy, relaxing, and perfect for adding personality to any miniature room or scene.

Chairs are one of those miniature pieces that instantly make a room feel complete. And once you have got the basic chair down, making a beach lounger is just a fun twist on the same idea. This tutorial walks you through both, so you can furnish an entire living room — or set up a tiny beach scene.

Step by Step

Step 1: Cut the Chair Legs

Cut four short pieces from a popsicle stick for the chair legs. The front legs should be a bit shorter than the back legs, since the back legs will extend upward to support the backrest. Sand the cut edges smooth so the chair sits evenly on a flat surface.

Step 2: Build the Seat

Cut a few popsicle sticks to the width you want for your chair seat and glue them side by side. You can make the seat as wide or narrow as you like — a wider seat gives you more of an armchair feel, while a narrow one looks more like a dining chair.

Step 3: Shape the Backrest

Glue a piece of popsicle stick horizontally across the two back legs to form the backrest. You can use a single stick for a simple look, or add two or three thin slats for a more detailed design. Make sure the backrest feels sturdy before the glue dries.

Step 4: Create the Beach Lounger Angle (Optional)

For the beach lounger, build a longer seat and add an angled backrest instead of a straight one. Cut two support pieces at an angle and glue them underneath to prop up the back section. The lounger should look like someone could actually recline in it — that tilted angle is what gives it its charm.

Step 5: Finish and Paint

Sand everything smooth and add a coat of paint. Bright colors work beautifully for the beach lounger — think turquoise, coral, or sunny yellow. For the indoor chairs, a natural wood stain or a soft pastel looks lovely. Let the paint dry completely before placing them in your miniature scene.
