A miniature bookshelf looks wonderful, but it looks even better when it is filled with tiny books. Making miniature books is a surprisingly satisfying project — each little volume has real pages and a proper cover. Once you start, you will want to make a whole library.
Step by Step
Step 1 — Cut Tiny Pages
Cut several small rectangles of paper — these will be the pages of your book. They should all be the same size. Stack them neatly together. Five or six tiny pages per book is usually enough to give it a nice thickness without being too bulky.
Step 2 — Fold in Half
Take your stack of pages and fold them all in half together, pressing the crease firmly with your fingernail or a ruler. This creates the inside of your book with a neat spine. You can trim the edges with scissors if they are not perfectly even.
Step 3 — Create the Cover from Cardboard
Cut a small piece of cardboard just slightly larger than your folded pages. Fold it in half to create the front and back cover. Colour or paint the cover before gluing — it is much easier to decorate it while it is still flat.
Step 4 — Glue the Spine
Apply a thin line of glue along the folded edge of your pages and press them into the spine of the cardboard cover. Hold everything together firmly while the glue dries. The pages should sit neatly inside the cover.
Step 5 — Add Title Details
Use a fine-tip marker to write a tiny title on the spine and front cover. You can also add a small rectangle of coloured paper as a title label. If you have very steady hands, try adding a tiny illustration on the front cover too.
