Another Way to Make Tiny Paintings

A quick and clever method for making miniature artwork using printed images and simple cardboard frames. Perfect for filling a whole gallery wall in no time.

Here is another wonderfully easy way to make tiny paintings for your miniature walls. This method uses printed or drawn images mounted on cardboard with simple frames, and it is perfect for when you want to fill a whole wall with art quickly. You really can create an instant gallery.

Step by Step

Step 1 — Draw or Print Tiny Images

Draw small pictures by hand, or find images you like and print them very small. Flowers, landscapes, animals, or abstract patterns all work beautifully. If you are printing, scale the images down until they are the right size for your miniature room walls.

Step 2 — Mount on Cardboard

Cut each image out neatly and glue it onto a small piece of cardboard. This gives it thickness and stiffness, just like a real canvas or framed print. Trim the cardboard so it extends just a millimetre or two beyond the image on all sides, creating a natural border.

Step 3 — Create a Simple Frame

Use markers or coloured pencils to draw a frame border directly onto the cardboard edge. Or cut very thin strips of paper and glue them around the image as a frame. Keep it simple — sometimes just a dark line around the edge is enough to make it look properly framed.

Step 4 — Hang on the Wall

Attach your finished paintings to the walls of your miniature room with a small drop of glue. Arrange them at the right height for your miniature inhabitants — remember, a mouse's eye level is much lower than ours. Try different arrangements until you find one you love.
