How to Make Tiny Cauliflower from Clay

Sculpt a surprisingly realistic tiny cauliflower from polymer clay with textured florets and delicate green leaves. A fun medium-level project that looks amazing!

Would you believe that a tiny cauliflower can be one of the most rewarding things to sculpt from clay? It sounds tricky, but the bumpy texture actually makes it forgiving and fun — there is no smooth, perfect surface to worry about. If you enjoy the process of shaping and adding detail, you are going to love this project.

Step by Step

Step 1: Form the Floret Ball

Start by mixing a bit of white and cream clay together to get a natural cauliflower colour. Roll it into a small ball — this will be the head of your cauliflower. Do not smooth it out too much. You want a slightly uneven, organic shape rather than a perfect sphere.

Step 2: Create the Textured Surface

Using a toothpick, press small bumps and clusters into the surface of the ball. Real cauliflower has those beautiful tight little florets, and you can recreate that by pressing and poking gently all over the surface. Work your way around the whole ball until it has that characteristic bumpy look. This is the fun part — every little poke adds character.

Step 3: Add Green Leaves Around the Base

Take small pieces of green clay and flatten them into thin, slightly curved leaf shapes. Press them gently around the base of the cauliflower head, overlapping them a little so they cradle the white florets. You can use a toothpick to add a vein line down the center of each leaf for extra detail.

Step 4: Bake

Place your cauliflower carefully on a parchment-lined tray and bake according to your clay instructions. Let it cool completely before handling. Once baked, you will have a wonderfully realistic little cauliflower that looks right at home in a miniature kitchen or vegetable display.
