One of the most wonderful things about miniature making is that you do not need fancy supplies to create something beautiful. This little stove is made from a toilet paper roll — something you probably have lying around right now. It is quick, it is fun, and the result looks so much better than you would expect.
Step by Step
Step 1: Cut the Roll to Size
Flatten your toilet paper roll slightly and cut it down to the height you want for your stove. Most dollhouse stoves look best at about two-thirds of the full roll height. You can also trim the shape so it has a flat back that sits nicely against a wall.
Step 2: Create the Top Surface
Cut a piece of cardboard to fit on top of the roll as the stovetop. Glue it in place and make sure it sits flat. This is the surface where you will add the burners, so a smooth, level top makes everything look much more realistic.
Step 3: Add the Burner Circles
Using black paint or a fine marker, draw small circles on the top surface to represent the burners. Two or four burners looks just right, depending on the size of your stove. You can also cut tiny circles from black paper and glue them on for a slightly raised effect.
Step 4: Attach the Knobs
Glue small beads to the front of the stove to serve as the control knobs. Space them evenly and make sure they are all at the same height. Tiny round beads work perfectly for this — they add such a realistic little detail that really brings the whole piece together.
Step 5: Paint Your Stove
Give the whole stove a coat of white paint, being careful around the burners and knobs. You might need two coats for a nice clean finish. Once the white is dry, you can add black details for the oven door outline or any other finishing touches you like.
