Miniature Carrots from Polymer Clay

Shape tiny tapered carrots from polymer clay with textured lines and leafy green tops. A fun, easy project that looks wonderful in any miniature kitchen or garden scene!

Miniature carrots are one of those projects that are incredibly simple but always look fantastic. The tapered shape, the little texture lines, the feathery green tops — it all comes together beautifully. If you are looking for a quick and cheerful clay project, this is a wonderful place to start. You will have a whole bunch of them ready before you know it.

Step by Step

Step 1: Roll Tapered Cone Shapes

Take a small piece of orange clay and roll it into a cone shape — thicker at the top and tapering to a point at the bottom. Use your fingers to gently shape it until it looks like a little carrot. Do not make the tip too sharp or thin, as it can break after baking. A slightly rounded tip works perfectly.

Step 2: Add Texture Lines

Using a toothpick, gently press horizontal lines across the surface of each carrot. These are the little grooves that real carrots have, and they make your miniatures look so much more convincing. Keep your lines light — you want them visible but not too deep. Work your way from top to bottom.

Step 3: Create the Green Leafy Tops

Roll a few tiny thin pieces of green clay and shape them into little leaf-like strands. Group two or three together and press them gently into the top of each carrot. These feathery tops are what really bring the carrot to life. You can use a toothpick to help attach them securely.

Step 4: Bake

Place your carrots on a parchment-lined tray and bake according to the temperature and time on your clay packaging. Once they have cooled, they are ready to go. These little carrots look wonderful piled up together in a tiny crate or basket.
